And yet, you couldn’t do it if your very life depended on it.

No, it takes longer than that.

They need to move some cones and lane splitters in the toll gate area, plus a MDOT or MTA vehicle has to drive the closed lane and visually verify it’s safe to reverse the lane. Only then do they open it for two-way or close it back to one way.

Think of it like how they change the HOV direction on 395 around 11am on weekdays. There are manual gates that they open and close as well as overhead red Xs that they turn on to completely close the lane. Then a MTA cop will drive the lane to make sure no one is on it. Then it can open.

The cones to which you seem to be referring that may need to be moved are on the Annapolis side and there aren't many. It wouldn't take long. They have it down to a science, since they need to be ready to change the "suicide lane" direction at any time if there is an accident or broken down car.

OP here, just realized my typo lol.

I’m thinking about the lanes and cones that need manually moving on the road on either side of the bridge. I feel like that would take a while.

Takes no longer than it takes to drive across the bridge, one-way

On the Bay Bridge, it can get done in under an hour easily. You close the reversible lane completely, have a trooper take a lap through it to make sure no one is there, then open it going the other way.
The do it on the HOV lanes on 95 in Northern VA twice a day every day and it's a much longer stretch.

Looking for someone who may know, not guess. Google wasn’t helpful
Just came across BB WB and the 3rd lane was closed. It got me wondering, when they have the direction one way and switch that lane to the opposite direction, how long does that process take?
I’m thinking at least an hour but wondering if it’s actually a few hours…..
