We had a great time in a beach town on the Costa Brava (coast northeast of Barcelona). Water very nice for swimming, and great food. Great place for say 4-5 days.

Weatherspark.com is a great place to check weather history of specific places. Get a good idea of exact temps by time of year, humidity, etc.

Barcelona and a small beach town nearby is a great idea. Just don't go to the big touristy attractions like Las Ramblas and it won't be crowded. Plenty of small beach towns nearby that will be hopping but not overrun. Just avoid the towns with really big hotels, etc.

Thanks. I’m disappointed because I personally would like to see Madrid, but if it’s going to be worse than a DC summer outside and less air conditioning, I dont know if we’d even make it (me and one of my boys don’t do well in the heat).

I’ve heard Barcelona is insanely crowded and they don’t like tourists- any truth to this? If we did this route we’d probably only stay there 2-3 nights and then do some coastal towns for the next week, but it sounds like those might be completely overrun as well?

Thanks! Hadn’t considered that region, I will check it out.

Madrid will be really hot and honestly probably miserable. I'd do San Sebastian and Biarritz or Bibao. Barcelona and the coast, too, would work.

Asturias and Galicia would be cooler and interesting for your kids.

I know. The title of the post makes me feel hot just thinking about it, too.

10ish days with two middle elementary aged boys. What will be the least hot? Less interest in museums, more interest in playgrounds, swimming, outdoorsy stuff, sports.

Madrid seems easiest to fly into…. Thinking Madrid, then up to San Sebastián for while? Or would you do Barcelona and the coastal beaches near there?

They have zero interest in culinary adventures unfortunately, so fabulous restaurants is not a priority.
