Unfortunately Ritz Carlton Isla Verde has been closed for years and not reopening until sometime in 2025 (unclear when).

I like Fairmont too

The Fairmont is nice. I agree, get breakfast in the rate as the spread is impressive.

We had great success with Airbnb. 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and cheaper than needing 2 hotel rooms

Plus we loved having the kitchen, washer/ dryer

I'm the OP and it looks like adjoining rooms in San Juan is the way to go. Full suites with a total of three beds do not seem to exist.

We stayed at the Royal Sonesta in Isla Verde this past summer. It pretty much checks your boxes. The pool is great for all ages. The beach is right there and calm. Perfect for a 9 year old and easy to access.

We're planning on going to San Juan in February. We don't want an all inclusive as my mom is not into them. The trip would involve three people: an 80 something woman who is quite mobile but has some balance issues: a long walk over deep sand to get to the ocean would not be idea, a 9 year old who loves the beach, and me. I am the mom in this sandwich generation trip and I am celebrating a milestone birthday.

Things we need:
Beachfront that's reasonably accessible from hotel.
reasonable cab ride from downtown San Juan
Elevator ride to rooms rather than walking up stairs.
A suite type set up with at least two beds because my mom and kid go to bed at 8:00 whereas I like to head to bed at 10 or 11.

Price is not a huge concern as my mother likely won't have that many vacations left where she is able to get around fairly easily.
