Wow. These responses. OP, I’d be kind of annoyed too. You might need to get some outdoor fans or something to blow the smoke away. How close is your house to theirs?

The house next door has a fireplace and if our side window is open smoke comes in. I always make sure it's never opened in winter.

Please stay in the ‘burbs. Don’t move out any further than that. Otherwise you’ll be complaining about the smells from my horses, noise from farm equipment, dust from plowing, mowing and harvesting, gunfire, open burning, livestock noise and everything else people like you complain about as soon as you move to “horse country”. We got flooded with noobs during the pandemic and the b***hing was endless.

They're burning wood in an indoor fireplace and the smoke leaving the chimney causes your clothes to smell? That's very odd, smoke typically goes up and disperses. Can you put a fan on your porch?

I wouldn't assume they aren't burning it for heat. I've considered a wood stove to augment my electric heat in a cold part of the house. If that's the case, they're unlikely to continue once it warms up.

We have new neighbors and they burn wood every night...so far for 4 weeks straight. If we are in our backyard playing with our dog, we all smell like a campfire when we come in. We've lived in the neighborhood for over 10 years, and have never experienced this. We like to spend a ton of time in our screened porch/patio area in the spring/fall/summer but I'm not sure how we'll stomach this. Anyone else have neighbors that do this? This is an affluent higher density area and not as if they are burning wood for heat. I don't think its kind/fair for me to bring it up with the neighbor but its hard not to be annoyed. Don't their clothes smell too?
