Only if you are ok buying a sh*t ton of gear. Way, WAY more than a standard sleepaway camp packing list with a uniform

Years ago there was a “camp lady” who offered suggestions based on budget, kids’ interests, etc. Is she still doing this?

Depends on the kid. DS went to 5 days sleepaway in 2nd. 3rd grade did 2 week and absolutely loved it, didn’t want to leave at pick up

This is great for a play-in-the-mud kid.
Lots of activities, pond swimming, art, song, but mostly just being in, and learning about, nature while having fun with the kids around. Rarely over 30 kids at the camp each session. High staff:camper ratio.
There’s a 1 week session for her age group.

Thanks for staring this thread op, I was wondering about this myself. Any recommendations for affordable camps (for the general elementary age group)? We’re also looking at New England as well.

You don't have a lot of options for that age group. Maybe girl scout camp, you can join just for the camp.

I would also look into the Poconos area, lots of camps there.

I’m looking for sleep away camps for my kid who will be a rising 3rd grader. Hoping for 1-2 weeks at a camp that emphasizes inclusivity, trying new things and outdoor activities over competition (she likes sports, but isn’t super athletic). She loves animals and nature. She’s not yet into “tween” culture—more of a play in the mud kind of kid, so she’ll do well at a camp with that sort of culture (to the extent camps have “vibes”). Suggestions for sweet overnight camps within 3 hours of dc? We could also do New England if people have recommendations there.
