I had this happen and had a miscarriage, there really is nothing you can do but roll with the punches and enjoy the possibility of a new baby! I would have loved a baby but there was a lot of relief weeks after the miscarriage. My kids are older and I love my life. I do feel a pang of jealousy for all the 40+ ladies with their babies though. That could have been me!

Because when you've been ovulating on day 11 of your cycle like clockwork for years, and never gotten pregnant outside of your fertile window of 4 days prior and 1 day past... it comes as a shock when you do get pregnant and figure out that the only way this could possibly have worked was if you ovulated on day 17 or something.

Stop shaming. It happens to many women. It could happen to you, and if it didn't, it might have been just chance.

I was 43 when I had my last kid. Also an oops. It has been actually good for me, I almost feel having a little keeps me active. I did have to have a c section and mild high blood pressure but I felt fine despite all the medical professionals acting like I was a freak of nature it may go better than you think. Take it day by day.

I’m pregnant at 43. Granted it’s IVF with preimplantation genetic testing, but I have two friends who conceived naturally and gave birth to healthy babies at 45. Wishing you the best. Congratulations!

Just had my fourth and you forget how magical babies are. Since I’ve been through it so many times I remembered the “bad” things more like waking up in the night which made me nervous to have another. Now with a baby in my arms I forgot that you can and literally would do anything for them because of that bond that is not replicable and indescribable. Good luck to you PP! Babies are an absolute blessing no matter the age.

OP here. Thank you. I have older teens (!). Yes, I ordered prenatals. I also have some health issues, so while I'd love a magic baby, I'm not super enthused about the risks involved in a pregnancy. I will definitely do the genetic testing, PP.

I had a surprise baby at 45. I’m currently breastfeeding him at 1.5 for nap. It’s our third child but I was very scared. Turns out he was the best thing that’s ever happened to our family. All you can do is take it one day at a time. Physically, Pregnancy was harder for me at this age then having a toddler is, but I managed it. Good luck whatever your journey is.

Miscarriage is not a guarantee. So if you’re happy with being a parent (again?), just roll with it and congratulations! If you think you might terminate if there are abnormalities you can test for, you still have time for that. Take your prenatals!

This is unexpected and due to irregular perimenopause cycles. So many mixed feelings. I love babies. But I'm so old. However I have plenty of money. I know the risk of miscarriage is very high at my age. I've had them before. I don't want to be miserable until a potential miscarriage, waiting for the inevitable.

*But I do want to enjoy being pregnant a while, instead of taking a pill right away*

Is there any way I can suspend disbelief, just like when I was a kid at Christmas, and live in the moment for a few days or weeks? I want to be briefly happy about this, yet not too down when I lose the pregnancy.
