They only seem to be available in men's atm from Old Friend, but if your mom's feet are big enough to take men's sizes, she might be able to wear the smaller ones like these. I have Old Friends myself, too, and they've held up well.

Unfortunatelu the high bootie styles with warm shearling collars are impossible to get an arthritic foot into, as I've discovered to my dismay. But those kind with velcro straps that wrap over the foot are wonderful if you can find the right size.

PP here again. Look at the Bearpaw or Emu brands, too. A lot of knockoffs don't have good tread on the bottom but those two brands have good tread, sometimes better than the original.

My dad wasn't elderly when he passed away but he was sick for many years, and near the end had trouble tying shoelaces.

The only shoes he wore for the last 5 years of his life were ugg or similar shoes. Make sure you get ones with a back and with some sort of tread to avoid slipping.

A lighthearted post, I think. My 80ish parents need shoes and slippers for their cold and swollen feet. Uggs? My dad can tie shoelaces but my mother cannot. Thanks, all!
