We're talking about DC fool.

My God.

Hey dum dum, you must be too stupid to realize "international migration" is codespeak for illegal immigration. Demented liberals live all over the place from NoVA, to DC, to MoCo.

"International Migration", lol. We've heard that one before. They invent new terms for illegal aliens every 10 years. Illegal aliens, to undocumented migrants, to now international migrants. You ain't foolin' anyone.

Horray. DC imported a whole bunch of poverty from what is essentially the 3rd world and from countries with some of the highest violent crime rates in the world. So great. Have fun paying for the schools, police, and unpaid hospital bills.

People said the same thing when my immigrant forebears arrived in the 1880s. Actually people said the same thing when my partner's immigrant forebears arrived in the 1750s. So I think we're ok - or, if we're not, it's not because of the immigrants.

People who came in the 1750s were not immigrants. I don't follow this new trend thall all Americans over all time have been immigrants or descendants of immigrants. Also who says our country would have suffered if we had not had the periodic great waves of immigration? Maybe we would have been better off without some of them.

Sure, they left England under more or less duress, and spent 10+ weeks on a wooden boat to cross an ocean to a different continent where they made a new life, but they weren't immigrants, because [um, why weren't they immigrants?].

OMG. You need to read a history book. It was second and third generation by then. Do you think George Washington was born in Liverpool? So many idiots out there.

The United States didn't exist before George Washington. Those who came over from England creates the U.S., did not immigrate to it.

But ok, if there is not concept of nationhood and citizenship and government and immigration, and we are just citizens of Earth lets just make every country have open borders, and hey, not countries or government,.just a free for all,

They didn't immigrate to the US, because the US did not exist, but they still immigrated. They immigrated to places that became the US.

Yes. So they were never immigrants to the United States. Just like them, my ancestors never been immigrants. We have been here since the nation's founding.

They were never immigrants to the United States. However, they were immigrants. If you want to brag that your ancestors immigrated before 1776, go off, I guess.

im sighing to myself to make this obvious point, but, enslaved people brought to the US were most definitely not immigrants. Black people in the US are the one exception to the 'we are all immigrants' point. it doesnt play to the nativists' point but its still an important point to make.

Then you should be working to end slavery here in the US and stop importing enslaved Africans to work on southern plantations.

Get busy.

The truth -- that DC's population growth remains troubling, and the completely factual reasoning behind it -- is hard for some people to accept.

According to the DC Policy Center, “This [population] growth was primarily driven by international migration and, to a lesser extent, fewer deaths than in past years.”
https://www.dcpolicycenter.org/publications/chart-of-the-week-dc-population-growth-outpaced-inner-counties/

According to Axios, DCPS is struggling to accommodate a lot of new international migrant students.

According to DCUM, these facts must be censored.

You probably only know two people who did that because it would be disastrous financially to move to the burbs during COVID then back to DC. They paid inflated housing prices both ways

I guess they are renters so it’s probably a wash. But not a lot of people would do this because most people move for tangible reasons that meet specific needs, like more space for growing family, schools, etc. Most people - or at least most normal people - are not moving to mindlessly follow trends.

DC is becoming more vibrant by the year.

And violent crime in DC is the lowest it's been in 30 years.

I love living here. Both immigrants and US citizens move here in large numbers. My very wealthy cousin just moved her daughter here.

Wondering what the DC haters will have to say about this. The District remains a dynamic, exciting and desirable place to live, despite what the racist suburbanites who frequent this board will tell you.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (7News) — The District’s population has exceeded 700,000 residents for the first time in five years, according to new U.S. Census Bureau data.

On Thursday, officials released new data showing that from July 2023 to July 2024, the city gained approximately 15,000 residents, bringing its population to 702,250.

This marks the District’s largest annual growth rate in nearly a decade, at 2%.

“People from across the nation and the world are choosing Washington, D.C. because of our vibrant communities, world-class schools, dynamic job market, and rich cultural opportunities,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “D.C. is a strong, well-run city, and people want to be here. We’re happy about that.”
