If you’re so put off by it, cancel the reservation or park in a garage.

Parking passes available upon request is not the same thing as parking is paid.

and it’s definitely not the same as free parking.

Pay it, but mention it in the review.

+1. Are you uncomfortable paying through Venmo? You can ask the host to submit an extra charge through airbnb. It adds to their "income" from airbnb so they will be taxed on it, which is probably why they would rather go through venmo.

Yes, OP you can always say you aren't comfortable paying off platform, please include in my airbnb payment.

I do agree with you though. She should disclose the price if she's charging for it. Airbnb does NOT allow off platform payment, so she is breaking the rules by doing that. Def a bit shady.

It doesn't sound like SHE is charging for it. Her city/local jurisdiction charges for a guest pass. The host will facilitate that that, but she (the host) should not have to pay it.
The host should probably change her wording to be more specific.

OP here. I think that is my issue. We are visiting and didn’t know that there is a fee to park on the street. She should have that stated that up front that parking passes can be requested for additional fees.

This. If they bill you through Airbnb they will have to add $ to cover fees.

No, there are no service fees or taxes on extra charges. As a guest I have paid for pool heat that way. As a host I have charged for late checkout using it. But it counts as income from Airbnb which I pay taxes on.

This is on you. It never said free parking. Either pay the fee or find somewhere else to park.

With Airbnb I think we always assume there will be an extra $100 spent on extra fees that are not stated upfront but are clearly part of the Airbnb economic model. It's annoying but that's where I set my expectations.

For anything less than four days, we find it cheaper to stay in a hotel.

Technically that sounds right, but for parking in NJ near NYC I'd probably just shell out the $36 through Venmo.

Post 12/20/2024 07:33     Subject: AirBnB parking question

We are heading to NY next week and will be staying in the Jersey side and was told by our host that it would cost us $36 for her to apply for visitor parking. She said we can pay her by Venmo.

In her listing, all she said about parking is “parking passes available upon request.” I read that if there are charges, host should have disclosed them and they are not supposed to collect them outside of the AirBnB system. How should we proceed with this? We contacted CS and they told us that the host can submit the charges after our stay and we can dispute them. Is that correct? Thanks!
