I think that is amazing - not many organizations do this. Kudos for being human.

Still waiting— call is at 1. This isn’t going to be an offer (there is still one more round) and I doubt it will be another role (this is for an exec position). I really think this is going to be a “warm” rejection. I get that the recruiter wants to be “nice” but this setup is just painful. I would prefer her to say “we’re not moving you to the next round but I would love to chat to give some feedback” or something along those lines.

HR leader here....

Honestly, could be so many things. I really try not to stress out candidates with things like this, but I know I probably have.

Could be that they see you being a great fit for a different job and want to tell you about it.

Could be that the company is entering into some M&A deal and they are implementing a hiring freeze until they sort it out (this happened to me once), but they want to keep you warm with hope they can hire you later.

Could be they want to confirm your salary expectations before they put an offer together.

Could be they want to pleasantly surprise you with an offer during the conversation.

Could be that one more leader wants to interview you and the recruiter wants to apologize for making the process longer.

Maybe I should’ve added that the recruiter already told me that the finalists will be going up to NY for a full day in person interview. And when I made this round he said “great news!” in that email. This one was just like “can you chat tomorrow?”

They probably want to see if you’ll accept less money

I wouldn’t read into this at all. It could mean they want more information, want to schedule another interview, plan to offer you the job or turn you down. Until you chat, you won’t know. Good luck!

Had zoom interview with the company hiring committee last week. Just got the email that the recruiter wants to “chat” tomorrow. I’m assuming if I made it to the final round she’d just say that in email right? This is letting me down easy right (except, really, can you just say “no” in the email please and not string me along?).

Just need confirmation on this. I’m so so sad.
