Some of the Catholic High Schools give merit aid - but you would have had to take the HSPT already to qualify (assuming you have an 8th grader).

Honestly - DCUM haters and boosters notwithstanding - all of the mainstream DC area private schools are good. They are solid schools where a good student is going to get a strong education. If you want to”elite” or are chasing name prestige, that will narrow it down. If your kid has specific interests (whether academic, arts, sports, etc) or challenges, that can narrow it down. Commute also matters. So you need to provide more info.

At the top schools---only financial aid. Even a perfect test score, 4.0 and great athlete meant we were full pay.

GDS and Sidwell are great if your kid has special needs that are undiagnosed or diagnosed but never spoken about in public.

Several schools give very small merit scholarships. At SR they give $5k off their $45k tuition, you still need to come up with $40k per year.

The best private schools are in high demand. There are more than enough very well behaved excellent students to fill them with wait lists

DCUM has a search function which works reasonably well.

I would start with reading the sticky thread at the top of the Private Schools forum. It is safe to ignore the debate aspects of that thread, but probably look into any school mentioned in that thread which is on the same side of the river as one lives and works.

(NOTE: In my view, a daily commute across any Potomac River bridge would be nuts. There are perfectly fine schools on both sides of the river.)
