The player in question was asked to leave PVI and had to return to his public school for which he was zoned. He played very little for the Madison team this year. It is extremely unfortunate that this happened in such a big game and I am sure the kid feels terrible but please don't use this as an example of Madison getting transfers to help their football program. There is absolutely nothing that is against any rule or the spirit of any rule in order to allow this particular kid to attend Madison.

Just stop it. Player shouldn't have thrown his helmet, simple as that. At this level of football, officials, especially in the finals, are trained to call the rules, there's no leeway. By calling the game by the rules, there's no argument to be made about a rule, other than possible interpretation. What if they didn't call the penalty - the other team would have a solid argument against the officials.

Stop the babying -the helicopter parents in this area are turning out a bunch of kids who can't do anything for themselves and entitled beyond belief.

He is zoned for Madison. Transferring from private school to the public school for which you re zoned, EVEN IF YOUR REASON IS 100% SPORTS, is always okay. As is transferring to private from public. The issue is sports related transfers from one public to another for which you are not in boundaries.

Stop with the transfers. Yes, he came in from PVI, he didn’t to play football. Take a look at the playing time and you will see there wasn’t anything nefarious going on. Poor kid just excited for his team and is getting talked about it online. Just a kid, show some grace. I’m sure we all have something like that at some point and someone showed us grace.

If he followed fcps and vhsl rules---and there is no proof he did not--then its a non issue.

It's like refs generally not calling fouls or violations in the closing seconds of a basketball game. You don't want it to look like the refs decided the outcome of the game.

It's unfortunate similar restraint wasn't exercised here in both instances. If it was truly bad conduct directed at an opposing player, OK, but this was just celebratory.

Honestly, kind of ridiculous to throw that flag in that situation. I get that you want to adhere to the letter of the law, but maybe recognize that it is a very exciting moment of those kids - give them a little grace and let the outcome be decided by the players on the field. Same. He actually threw it down on the sideline and it bounced onto the field. I feel terrible for the guy.

Saw the dramatic ending to Madison’s bid for another state title last weekend. Feel sorry for the kid who threw his helmet onto the field that cost Madison the 15 yard penalty - he was just trying to enjoy the pending victory.
