I saw a comparison of world records broken in track vs swim over the decades. They are much more numerous and significant in swim than track.

Actually don’t do that. For some reason that your USA swimming hand book doesn’t have motivational times. You can Google and find from the 90s though.

Pvswim.org/time_stds/ Has a lot of what you’re looking for.

For all of the savvy math people - is there a way to look at the motivational time standards from the past and compare them to the current standards? Preferably a site that could highlight what is different.

So if I wanted to take the standard from 20 years ago (2000-2004) and compare it to today's, is there an easy way?
