Your 10 year old is likely to be worth $10k or more. If you are willing to risk that much start with a higher deductible of 2k. Risk 2k before you risk 10k.

How much is your comprehensive? Can you raise the deductible and save much? Remember window glass us not cheap for side windows or rear window either.

Comprehensive is much cheaper than collision so perhaps drop the collision only. Or, look into raising your deductible.

Windshield is $400. I would have dropped it long ago.

We opted out of collision for a 10 year old car. My son totalled it after 6 weeks. Agent said statistically we made the right choice...but in our case obviously not. You just have to be ready to replace it on your own if something happens.

Your car might be worth quite a bit since it’s rarely driven.

Someone backed into my 12 year old car (that I sold for 14k later that year) and didn’t leave a note. There was quite a bit of damage and I’m glad insurance covered it.

I don't know - my windshield has never been cracked in the 10 years I've owned it. I know it's been hit by rocks on the highway. I figure I'd save more just paying for it out of pocket.

I pay too much in car insurance. Only drive about 5k a year, 10 year old vehicle. Live in a dense walkable area with good public transportation. It would save me hundreds a year to only have liability (and also be covered for uninsured drivers). At what point have you or would you get rid of comprehensive insurance and only retain liability?
