I have a Droid and it's a major PIA to read DCUM from it. When I click on a forum, the list of topics posts okay but when I click on a thread, it never seems to fully load. I can read the posts but just as I'm in the middle of one, it throws it back up to the top. I just give up after a while.

22:24 here - still waiting until I have time to do a decent backup before I upgrade to the new OS. I've had a couple friends lose a lot of the app data (for the data that doesn't automatically get backed up with iTunes sync) when they did it and I want to be prepared for what I might lose. Once my LO is in school I should have time.

I guess you are in a better cell location than I usually am re: the download speed! I'll have to try when I'm at home with wifi to see if it much faster...

you're right - the wrapping is the issue more than the actual ads. and I do also zoom in and once the wrap happens I can click on a link. I was just trying to simplify my screen captures...

what about including an image that is 1 pixel high and however wide the ads are at the top of that column - would that make it wrap faster?

thanks for looking into it!

I think I found it loaded better through the google app than through the safari app. Haven't tested that recently though.

(Another board I visit uses forum runner, but I haven't actually downloaded it.)

Okay, I just tested this on my iPhone. I followed the same steps shown above. The ad in the right column does load last and the topic listings do get compressed to make room for the column. But, this happens so fast on my phone that there is not even time to blink before the lines get compressed. That's why I hadn't noticed it. I even turned off wifi and tested using 3G and it was the same. There is no time to click on a topic before it gets wrapped.

The other thing I noticed is that I expand the page in order to click on the Recent Topics link. As a result, when the Recent Topics start to load, the right column is not even visible to me. As soon as the topics wrap, I am free to click on one. That can actually be before the last ad loads.

I'm going to have to test with my phone again, but I don't think it works quite like that. One thing I notice is that you have not upgraded to iOS 4 yet. You might want to consider doing that. However, I don't think it would necessarily change how the page loads.

I go to "Recent Posts" (or any forum)...most of the page loads quickly except the ads on the right... At this point, I'm tempted to click on a link...but I wait...and wait....

because once the ad column starts to load, the middle table compresses...shifting the text/links down...if I had tried to select a link before it finished loading who knows what actually gets selected...

then eventually all of the ads finish loading and I'm free to select any links I want...

Same thing happens when loading individual topics.

So not the end of the world - definitely not worth hiring anyone to fix. But definitely a PITA and if there was some way to have that right-hand column load earlier...or change to a fixed width table for the topic list...or something? It would be appreciated.

No problems with iPhone here.

It's a pain to try to view on my BlackBerry, given all the zooming in and out required to get it so it is readable. A mobile version would be a dream.

I've been reading DCUM on three different iPhones over the past three years. I've never experienced any problem viewing the site on an iPhone. I can't imagine why the last two posters are having issues.

same here - I hate how the ads on the right load last (& slowly) so it throws the formatting off at the last minute... move the ads somewhere else or make the table width fixed or something...

The current format works fine with the iPhone and, I assume, Android phones. I also know we have a lot of Blackberry users. So, I don't have planes to make a mobile version of the website. I have given some thought to an iPhone app, but no immediate plans to create one. I'd have to hire a programmer which I'm not that eager to do.

Not sure if it's been brought up before. Any plans?
