This pisses me off. It's so easy to fear monger among consumers about how some common consumer item is giving their kids cancer.

Like yes it's not a huge deal to replace black plastic but also it was ubiquitous before this announcement. So we all buy it, and then they say "no it's very bad" so we all throw it away and buy something else, and then they say "oh it wasn't that bad -- not ideal but not as big a deal as we thought."

It makes me feel manipulated. Maybe double check your math before a million journalists splash it all over the news for a month and a half.

Idiots.

I don’t think anyone is saying it’s a good idea to keep using black plastic utensils, especially over heat, but the lead author of the study is, understandably, going to defend her work despite having included some incorrect, and therefore misleading, data.

I look forward to hearing one day about how silicone is dangerous to us in ways we didn’t previously know.

yup- tossed them right in the trash. It's fine, we were due for replacements and the plastic kind of icked me out in any case. We're using wood, stainless steel, silicone for non stick.

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/are-black-plastic-spatulas-really-that-bad-your-exposure-to-toxins-from-popular-cooking-utensils-may-not-be-as-extreme-as-recent-study-suggested-164241889.html

Turns out a mathematical error caused the panic over black plastic utensils. It isn't as bad as the original story represented.
