School Board adopts all-day ban on student phone use, makes one exception
https://www.arlnow.com/2024/12/13/school-board-adopts-all-day-ban-on-student-phone-use-makes-one-exception/

"Arlington School Board members Thursday night (Dec. 12) voted unanimously (5-0) to implement a bell-to-bell ban on student use of phones in county schools starting Jan. 6. High school students will be allowed to have “brief” access to their phones in designated areas during non-instructional time, most likely around lunchtime."

No mention of penalties for students, and admin/teachers who do not follow the new policy.

That was dumb. They should never have included that.

And I say that with a kid who graduate last year and I texted way too frequently during the day out of connivence to me so i could get questions answered and information and yes I was part of the problem

So now that it no longer affects you. You think it’s great?

I would have been fine with it if it had been instituted while my kid was there. My texting was a convenience and I would have just adjusted to not doing it. It would not have been that big of a deal.

Then it would not have been that big of a deal for you to voluntarily stop it. You willingly and knowingly contributed to a problem that impacted not just yourself, or even just yourself or your own kid, but to a whole community .... because there wasn't a rule - or a rule being enforced. That's pretty brave of you to admit pseudo-publicly.

Agreed, just no phones all day. Get it done.

+1. Eliminate all phone distractions, and give kids the gift of being present all day at school. They will never experience being so untethered again.

no one forced you to text your kid or give him a phone. This is why we can't have nice things.
