If your drawers and closet don’t fit it all, you are prob keeping a ton of stuff that you never wear. Do a purge.

+1
I did this recently and now all my clothes fit in my dresser and small (non-walk-in) closet. I realized how few clothes I actually wear regularly and got rid of all the rest.

I do not do any of this. Everything stays in the closet year round. Sounds like make-work.

I don’t switch out my wardrobe. I don’t have enough clothes or space for that.

The only things I put away are shorts, sandals, and summer dresses in order to make room for sweaters and boots. Everything else stays.

OP here. Yes, we have limited closet space (plus no basement or attic). I'm sure I do need to do some purging, but my system typically works for me when it gets cold and stays cold! Also, with DC having shorter winters I'm a bit sad I have fewer opportunities to wear my cozy sweaters and cords.

Interesting to hear that some people just vary their layers throughout the year.

No. The clothing in my closet (all natural fibers, no poly) are designed to wear worn year round in various layers and configurations. We live in VA/northern Europe.

Well, that also seems extreme. I do swim stuff, a few summer dresses and heavy coats. It helps a lot. I just use a couple under bed boxes.

I wear the t-shirts all year, just under sweaters now.

I live in an old 1890 house with tiny closets, so I can relate to not having abundant space, but is it possible that you have too many clothes?

I pretty much lean into layers because I work in two offices. One is cool year round and the other is overheated in the winter and overcooled in the summer. I don't ever put away my short sleeves shirts or cardigans because these are continuously in use. One box under the bed holds a few heavier wool sweaters that get much less use.

I batch my clothes into 4 seasons and do multiple change overs
1. Late August when I clean out my kids’ closets for back to school. Get out light jackets, fall sports clothing, a few pairs of pants
2. Mid-October - get out a few light sweaters or cardigans, transition my kids to 50/50 pants /shorts. Everyone tries on their winter gear for fit. Make a “Black Friday” shopping list of any cold weather items we need.
3. Thanksgiving weekend - put away all but 1 swimsuit and pair of shorts for each person. Put away the summer colors and prints. Get out the winter gear.

Reverse in the spring, adjusted for the climate of wherever we’re going for spring break.

Anyone else having a hard time with DC weather? I feel like cold temps keep starting later and then sometimes it gets cold and then rebounds to warmer temps. I'm unpacking all my sweaters from storage today, but I feel like I could still wear most of my short-sleeved tops. I don't have room in my closet and drawers for everything!
