I don't think the the in-pool score is decided by a straight average of the COGAT and NNAT, but you're right, nobody really knows. From what I've seen, I think the COGAT is weighted more heavily than the NNAT. I think the county determines who is in-pool because they are the ones that send out the in-pool notification emails. What IS definitive is that nothing is used to determine the in-pool score other than the NNAT and COGAT.

I understand it's some combination of cogat and nnat only but no one knows exactly how they are combined. I'm also curious about who exactly makes the decision.

Additionally, if not in-pool, what does that mean? Your child is not in the top 10% of their grade on these tests or something else?

I asked this question a few days ago and it doesn’t sound like anyone really knew. I believe top 10% of kids per school. My friend told me it was the average of the cogat and NNAT. This is what she heard and that is what she told me. Who knows how it is actually calculated?

That is insane. I'd copy either an assistant principal or someone in the office and have them confirm receipt.

Our AART was amazingly helpful and I'm always surprised by these kinds of reports on here.

Are you planning on dropping off a physical copy in person? I have always emailed it in to the AART. I’ve heard years ago people used to do it in person.

That is nuts. I don't get holding on to the information that they clearly have until it is so close to the deadline. This means people really need to be doing the parent referral no matter what, and it is time-consuming!

This whole process has so many points where people who are not paying close attention could miss the boat. Seems really unfair to lower-income families, families where English is a second language, families that might be going through something and distracted, etc.

At one time, AAP was considered a gifted program and the Cogat was considered a good indicator of whether a child is gifted or not.

That time is no longer as FCPS dismantles its gifted program and parents dismantle tests.

Nobody knows. I am not sure why they are taking longer in recent years either. We would have received both cogat and in pool letters for my older kids by this time already

My older kids received their in pool letters before referrals were due. I went to say it was weeks before. Referrals are due at the end of the week.

Shouldn’t we have scores and in pool letters by now?

Yes, I know the AART told everyone to refer.
