If it involves an MCPS student attacking another MCPS student, then yes, it is a system concern because those two would have to occupy the same space in the school, even though the incident occurred in the community.

You all have to stop acting like MCPS should be blind, deaf and dumb to community incidents that impact how kids show up in the school building. The criminal or legal implications of the incident are for MCPD or the courts to deal with, but MCPS must be informed and RESPOND to incident to ensure the learning environment remains safe.

Wondering why as well. Maybe because both are Lakelands students and the incident was egregious (racist and used a knife).

On an aside, I an shocked the perp is so young—only in middle school.

Yes, I appreciate it. Our school had a bomb threat with a lockdown last year in the middle of AP exams, and parents had to pull teeth to get info from the Principal.

I can't think of a single incident of anti black violence in the lakelands before the anti-black initiatives. It's almost like you've given immature, violent boys a target to rebel against.

Dear Lakelands Park Middle School Families:
I am writing to make you aware of a serious incident that occurred in the community on December 6, 2024, and to let you know how it is being addressed.
On Friday, December 6, 2024, after school in the Kentlands, a Lakelands Park Middle School student physically attacked another student, repeatedly striking them and causing injuries that required medical attention. Following the altercation, the same student brandished a knife.
Additionally, during this incident, the student used a racial slur, specifically the n-word, toward African American members of our school community. Gaithersburg Police Department and emergency medical services were immediately contacted to assist the victim. The Gaithersburg Police Department concluded its investigation yesterday, allowing us to gather all available information about this incident as it pertains to the school and then share this letter with the school community.
Our school is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and caring environment for all members of our community. Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited, and we take any incidents involving violence or hate speech with the utmost seriousness. The combination of violence and hate speech is deeply hurtful and harmful to our entire community, particularly to our African American students and families. We will not tolerate hate, discrimination, or violence in any form at Lakelands Park Middle School.
In response to this incident, the Student Code of Conduct is being rigorously enforced to address the behavior of those involved. I appreciate your cooperation and encourage you to discuss this matter with your child so that we can work together to maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment at Lakelands Park Middle School.
