DS is a competitive swimmer. How can I use that? He doesn't perform, he races.

No. A child cannot be in any AAP classes in MS if they are not officially in Level 4 (Full Time AAP Services). They can take honors classes instead.

It matters the most in middle school from what ive heard (gets you in a different track of classes) but does not exist in high school.

There are differences in honors and AAP classes in MS. I know that DS is memorizing the states and other geographic information in his AAP History class and his friends in Honors History are not. I know DS has had different English assignments. I have not heard anything much about Science being different and the math track is already separated out from the AAP/Honors thing as it is.

But there are differences at some of the schools.

In the AART presentation on level IV they had at least one thing from 5th grade. I want to say it was a work of art with a detailed explanation of the thinking behind it, with the detailed explanation being the important part, but it's been over a year since I last saw that presentation.

Regardless, always have your kid do a brief write-up as a part of the work sample explaining their thinking behind the sample. Emphasis on the kid doing it - in the first person.

Does anyone have any ideas of what would be good works samples for applying to AAP in 6th grade.
