It's fairly new and may still be in the process of rolling out to all schools, but that is my understanding, yes.

No, just be challenged to learn to read, analyze, conduct research, and write at a truly college level - and start and practice doing that before senior year.

The main reason kids get accelerated math classes is because the students (and parents/tutors) aught them(selves) math outside of class.

How old are they?

If they’re in high school, you can see about English electives/clubs like journalism or creative writing.

If they’re in middle school, you might consider applying to the IB program at Richard Montgomery for high school.

If they’re in grade school, you might consider applying to the MS Humanities magnet program. If they’re in a lower grade, you might consider applying to one of the magnet centers for 4th and 5th grade.

She can always write on her own. November may be over, but she doesn’t have to wait for NaNoWriMo to write a story. If she wants to write a short story or poetry, you could have it bound with something like Illustory.

Montgomery County Public Libraries has book clubs and writers groups available for different ages.

Accelerating English isn’t necessary or won’t solve the problem. Teachers could give all students the possibility of enhancing the curriculum — read this book instead of that or these two books instead of that one, read this lit crit essay to supplement etc., and then kids could just write better essays. But the real problem is that the teachers don’t have time to reach real essays or grade them. Moving kids more quickly into the AP program doesn’t solve that problem.
