I received a plant once and that was nice: good gift. What I appreciate the most are the personal notes.

I'm a fed. My boss gives me a card and a token gift (think a box of chocolate covered almonds or something like that from Trader Joe's). I don't give anything to my boss (illegal) or to my coworkers. We do a white elephant gift exchange with a $10 limit.

Federal worker...give nothing. get nothing. Gifts to those above you are not allowed.

I work for a school. We do a white elephant with my direct team. Our school does a cookie exchange that I usually participate in and then I leave the tray for the rest of the staff. I don't typically give gifts outside my direct team.

I’m in government. I gift to my reports, but it’s nominal, a holiday thank you card and a small bag of treats. I don’t expect or want anything from anyone, especially the reports. Sometimes I have gotten a card/candy/mug from a boss.

No gifts given except during the mandated Secret Santa event. Miserable for everyone

I give no gifts at all, but when you must gift, only gift downward.

I'm a legal secretary at a law firm. I give zero gifts to anyone at work. Some years a couple of partners have given me holiday gifts, most years not.

One coworker I'm friends with often makes fancy cookies and gives out little bags of them to her friends, me included. It's always things like lavender lemon shortbread cookies or something.

Just do your job, stop the nonsense. This should not belong in workplace; people are hired to do the job. Exchanging gift has nothing to do with it.

When someone retires or leaves agency, then it is fine to give a gift.

I do not give gifts to my boss and equals, but I give gifts to people who report to me. Gifts flow downward.

Please answer yes or no:

Do you get a holiday gift for your boss?

Do you exchange holiday gifts with coworkers (not people you manage)?

What kind of job do you have / type of company you work for.
