I still prefer a paper planner, but there is an app called Goodnotes that basically functions as the digital version of of a paper planner if you use it on and iPad with the Apple Pencil.

I am an artist and Apple Pencil and iPad mini for drawing when I am out.
There is a feature with the pencil called Scribble that converts writing to text. You could probably use that in the calendar app. Then if you have an iPhone or Mac you could sync the calendars.
You might want to see if there are apps function as a written planner.
I use the Apple calendar color coded for far out scheduling and carry a small notebook and pen for daily lists notes. Haven’t figured out how to make the full transition.

I’m still a paper agenda person at the moment. I want to go digital but want it to be bigger and be able to write with a pencil. Does anyone use an iPad and Apple Pencil in this way? How has it worked for you?
