Some kids go from third string as juniors and become starters as seniors

I am old enough to remember when kids played both ways.

Think twice about this team. This is highly unethical.

Why is it unethical? They still get to practice and be a part of the team.

Every roster from high school, college, and the NFL has players who don't see the field.

Some kids want to be on the roster of a football team regardless of if they play.

Our youth team had less than 20 and everyone played offense and defensee. Hard to imagine 100.

At some schools, there are freshman and sophomores that are rostered on both JV and Varsity. There talented and the coach wants them to get in game reps, but also get exposure to varsity competition

For freshman and JV, starters got most of the playing time and sometimes 2nd string depending on the position. There were kids who never saw any playing time at all and were essentially practice players.

This is why there was a huge drop off between freshman and JV and then again for the kids coming back to try out for varsity. Some knew they would never play in a game.

Same at our high school. The football never cuts (as far as I have heard) but a lot never play. Many kids quit.

No.

Most starters will play the majority of a game unless it's a blowout or injury.

I know kids who played four years of highschool football and never received any meaningful game play.

Colleges can move to 105 rosters from 85 under the new settlement...not sure if HS copies things like that or what.

That’s insane. My kids teams roster is a fraction of that. Coaches play the best kids as starters and only substitute when 1. It’s a blow out or 2. Starter is injured

Not nice maybe but they play to win

Teams have over 100 on the roster? Wow!

Some will play scout team in practice, the very back of the roster won't even get scout team reps. Coaches are not playing 100 kids. Even the most heavily rotated position will only have a few kids playing per game. Some positions will never substitute unless their is injury

If you or your kids went to a big football school with over 100 on the varsity roster alone (JV and freshman are equally large) do most of the kids get playing time or do a large number just practice and stay on the sidelines?
