My 6-year old had a bad case of seborrheic dermatitis recently and what really worked was a prescription shampoo with a higher doses of selenium sulfide than the drugstore shampoos. The doctor also prescribed a medicated oil to relieve the itching.

Same for me, but it cost $200+

I would see a derm. But also it could be buildup mixed with sebum. My child who does a poor job of rinsing her hair in the shower gets these patches of gunk. Gently use some hair oil like Moroccan oil and massage into the scalp and then gently pull the gunk away with a fine tooth comb. When it’s just a little bit I can nick it in the bud with t-Sal and some combing with a fine tooth comb like lifting the hair away from the scalp to break up with crust.

I agree. See a dermatologist. I'm sorry you're going through this.

I have psoriasis and give myself injections of medicine every 8 weeks. That improved things a lot but still had dandruff and I now also have to use a prescription cream (kind of like mousse) after each time I wash my hair. The combo of those two help a lot.

And note winter, with dryer air, is worse for the scalp.

My daughter had the same issues. She saw a dermatologist and got two prescriptions- one for shampoo and one for something to use between shampoos. It works so well.

Did you see a doc??? Agree with yeast, but you also need a full blood panel.

I agree with seeing a doctor. My DH gets a medicated shampoo from his dermatologist, to use as needed. Then just maintains with H&S. They can also culture it for yeast. If that’s the case, a systemic anti-fungal (medication or a supplement regimen) would be helpful!

What about trying a moisturizer instead? Everything you’re mentioning is quite drying…. When i get dandruff and mild eczema in the winter, argan oil really helps.
