Tempurpedic just hit 20 years so technically should replace but may downsize this year so holding off. I think it's too soft these days, but I don't have a better plan.

Same here, although I think it will need replacement soon. I just added a topper, trying to test out what I want in a new mattress.

We tried internet mattresses and they lasted 5 years. We are currently on year 2 of a warranty replacement of an internet mattress, so hopefully it will last another three years and we'll have gotten 10 years out of the initial purchase.

Next time, I'm buying an expensive innerspring mattress. It's the foam that breaks down, I'll buy a $200 topper every two years if I have to, but I expect the springs to last 10+ years.

We are on year 7 of a firm foam mattress and it still feels brand new. No appreciable change in the supportiveness, no divots or sags. If it continues to age like this, I don't think we'd get a new one just because.

OTOH, we have a 15+ year-old hybrid queen mattress in the guest room that used to be our primary mattress, and it has not aged well. It's got divots on each side where each of us slept, it's very uncomfortable now and *very* tall. We are about to update the guest room and will probably replace the bed and mattress with a king-size bed/mattress that is lower/easier for our aging parents to get in and out of when they stay with us. The only question will be whether to move our current mattress to the guest room and get a new one, or put a new one in the guest room because we like our mattress a lot.

I've also been reading about the use of fiberglass in mattresses and I suspect is that the old mattress is deeply worn enough that the layers are likely physically compromised, so I'd like to get rid of it for that reason as well.

We bought firm latex mattress 15 years ago and we swap out a mattress topper when needed. We got our second topper right before Covid.

I’ve had mine longer but it’s an air bed (sleep number) so it doesn’t break down and sag.

As a person with a lot of back problems, I want/need the mattress to be harder when my back is acting up and I like it softer (but still firm in the lingo of the industry) when my back is better. I’ll even sleep on the floor on a mat when it’s bad.

I don’t think mattresses are that important for backs usually, it’s more that we notice the pain and stiffness in the morning and point at the mattress even if it’s not what is causing it.

We had our old mattress for over 18 years and only threw it out when we forgot to use the waterproof cover and my kid had an accident.

Our 11 year old mattress "seems" fine but recently, I hurt my back and mornings are now really bad - I am so stiff! Prior to this injury, I was fine in the morning.

Everything I read says, 10 year is the max even for nicer mattresses. Just curious of most people really replace theirs after 10 years?
