How big is the lump? If the lump is big/growing fast or if you have redness, surrounding swelling, pain, pain with walking, fever, chills shortness of breath, chest pain….then you should go to ER asap.

I'm pregnant and also had a painful lump appear on my thigh. It also sometimes hurt to stand on that leg, was tender to the touch, etc. After a few days I called my OBs non-urgent line, they ended up scheduling me for a telehealth appointment a few days later. The nurse who scheduled me for the appointment and the provider I saw for the appt both evaluated me for immediate risk signs of a DVT (blood clot). Neither thought it likely was one, but recommended getting a rule-out ultrasound just in case. The ultrasound showed it's superficial thrombophlebitis -- basically, an irritated vein that is more likely to occur during pregnancy. It's not dangerous, but you can take aspirin for pain and wear compression stockings (I haven't been able to find any maternity ones though...need tights as lump is too high up for socks).

From what I read, if you can *see* the lump it's more likely to be superficial and not dangerous. But, definitely still worth calling your OB. If they're worried about a blood clot they'll send you straight to the ED to get checked out. But I'd wait to see what they tell you to do.

It’s probably a fatty tumor, which often arise during pregnancy. They are benign. Call your OB and for the love, don’t go to the ER.

Omg do not waste ER resources on this. Make an appointment with your primary care doctor.

Emergency rooms serve to get patients stabilized and discharged to follow-up care or to admit to in-patient care. You do not need immediate surgery or in-patient care, nor is this an emergency. Even if the lump were, say, an aggressive cancer (which it almost certainly is not), you’d be told to wait a few days for an outpatient appointment. Just call your doctor’s office. Keep in mind that non-cancerous tumors are fairly common. They do not need to be excised unless they are causing pain or other loss of function.

An ER isn’t really going to do anything. Show your OB and get him/her to refer you to another doc.
