Ha! I didn't want to poopoo their suggestion since it was very sweet and thoughtful. Their dad uses the toaster multiple times a day and is very hard to boy for.

First PP. Aw, that's sweet. My philosophy with these ridiculously specific gadgets is go with the cheap one. If I truly use it so much that it breaks down, I can buy the more expensive model then. Except it pretty much never happens, because I use it a few times and never get to the point of breaking it.

Personally I have not needed a toaster at all since getting an air fryer. My toast comes out perfect every time.

I have a $5 Black Friday Walmart special from 1999. I was told yesterday from my husband that it's time to replace it, as only one side wanted to toast. It's funny that it's lasted almost exactly 25 years.

This makes me sad. Bye, toaster.

I’m all in agreement about the cheapest - my DH is a little more snooty. He bought me (what I think is) an incredibly expensive Smeg kettle. It doesn’t do anything really any more special than the $10 one I had for years and years did. I guess it matches the other appliances a little more, but all I need it to do is boil water. Yes, I make tea all day and it’s nice to have something more premium, but I don’t see the point. I know how to wait for it to cool down to make other temps, etc. It was a super nice idea, but I could have spent the balance of that purchase on something else more fun or that we could use.

OMG PP, we bought a $30 Sur La Table kettle that has settings for green, white and black tea. This is 1/5 the price of the cheapest SMEG. Why do people do this to themselves.

Oh, and I’m PP with the cheap toaster friend.

I once had an appliance person explain it to me, as we were having our expensive appliance repaired for the millionth time. Cheaper appliances are mechanical, and mechanical things don’t usually wear out as easily. They’re just parts. The newer things rely on electronics, which we all know with phones and WiFi and the like, are super glitchy and finicky and prone to problems. That same expensive appliances has electronics governing what’s probably good mechanics, but it doesn’t matter because the electronics are in change, and they are more or less always going to fail.

It was really eye opening to me that he put it that way.

No. Just no.

Learn to prepare toast using an analog toaster. If you cannot accomplish this, you do not deserve to be near a kitchen.

That's not the issue here How about you read more thoroughly before replying.

Have your teen watch this episode of the Oddballs cartoon (Raising Toasty, about a "smart" toaster): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plt7U_P_ow0

A touchscreen toaster is a stupid idea for simple product that works well as is. A touch screen is only inviting problems and expense.

If your teen is determined to get it for someone, make sure she uses her own money to buy it.

I hope it is 'smart' and is on standby listening in your kitchen at all times.

They've been around for years. This one has great reviews but is $300

My teen really wants to get a family member a touch screen toaster for various reasons. The ones that show you the color of the toast to select. Are there any that are actually any good? Most I'm seeing either have poor reviews or very expensive.
