We enjoy skiing in Telluride and Sun Valley, but we also like Jackson/Targhee and Snowbird/Alta. When the kids were younger, we frequently went to Deer Valley because we liked their ski school. It was also a great option for grandparents, and the on-mountain accommodations were nice. We strongly prefer ski-in/ski-out locations, as dealing with traffic, parking, getting kids out the door early, and getting ready in the parking lot detracts from the experience.

Telluride. The gondola makes it so easy to go into town. There’s so much slopeside lodging, so tons of ski in/ski out options. The terrain is great with something for everyone.

If you want something close to home, Stowe is great for kids. However, it’s East coast snow, so tends to be icy, and very very cold. But the village is great, my kids had tons of fun.

Breck and Keystone are also wonderful for families.

Breckenridge for DS for his 1st time out west. So many great blue runs for him to build his confidence and get better to then be able to advance to black on the same trip.

Whistler for the family. We love the town, restaurants, activities, etc.. that elevates the whole trip besides the skiing and conditions. DH and I went out there with a group of friends when we were dating back in the day. We loved it and had a great time. We went back 2 years go and took DS and also had a great time as a family.

We also love Vail as a mountain with all the terrain and back bowls. The town is OK but nothing special.

if you are trying to decide among ski mountains, I recommend Peak Rankings reviews.

Keystone was great when kids were little. Maybe bc it was our first family trip out west, maybe because we were ski in/ski out, but we had a great time.

Snowmas was kind of a pain to get to but a fantastic mountain. Probably our shared family fav for terrain.

We did not enjoy Park City but I think we just got unlucky with conditions. On the flip side, we had a fantastic late season trip to Mammoth Mt even though we had to take a shuttle; great fresh snow and lots of fun skiing through glades. We combined it with a trip to Death Valley which made for a fun spring break.

We live in Colorado so it's different for us--we ski all winter--but spring break at Breckenridge is always fun. The last week in March, days are long and it's warmer, crowds aren't bad, we usually have friends who are there for at least part of the week so our teens can ski with them, and the snow is usually still pretty good. Last year we had lots of powder that week.

Steamboat and Deer Valley were the best ski resorts when our kids were young. Our kids loved the ski schools. Everything is easy and high end at Deer Valley but the runs are shorter than CO so we progressed to Steamboat, Snowmass etc. as the kids got older. Bear Claw is ski in ski out at Steamboat. We stayed there many times and enjoyed it.

Beaver Creek. The green trails are at the top of the mountains, so even the less experienced skiers have views. Stay at the Park Hyatt. AMAZING hotel. They even take your ski boots off at the end of the day, put them on heaters to dry out and offer complimentary hot cocoa. Skiing is not my favorite and I loved it.

Depends on skiing abilities as well. When the kids were young we had a great time at Steamboat for their first trip out West. More recent favorite with teens was Telluride. Like a previous poster we've also done Salt Lake City where we spent a day at each resort when they had the 6th grade pass. Loved Alta and Snowbird. Stayed near SLC and did day trips up the canyons.

best trip is often about conditions
The best place will also vary based on what kind of a skier you are and what your budget is. Our favorite trips have been to Deer Valley and Winter Park - those are two very different mountains though! I would not recommend Winter Park on a weekend (too crowded with people from Denver) but it is my favorite place to ski during the week.

Breckenridge was good although our youngest did get altitude sickness. Staying in SLC and moving between ski fields worked. Whistler was good.

Best trips are when we have a ski-in/ski-out house and when the weather is good.
