I'm so sorry, OP. That's not a gardener, BTW. Around here there are landscapers who don't know a weed from a plant. Be very careful if you ask them to remove anything.

This is the difference between lawn cutters and true landscapers. I also learned this the hard way. You can ask him to buy you new ones and replace them.
