Why not adopt? y friend was adopted at 2.5 yo by her single, then 54 yo mother. She had an excellent upbringing and, of course, is grateful she was spared growing up in an orphans home/ foster homes.

Yes, if you can afford to have a child, and if you and your partner both really want a child (this would be the deciding factor for me if I could easily afford to have a child), then go for it! We didn’t have local family help, although I admit that I was in my 30s when I had my kids. If you have the desire and will give the kid tons of love, and are ready for the change in your lifestyle, then best wishes!

Partner is 43.

Assume plenty of money on both sides to pay for care- both for the child and for adults. Big ideal obviously but there is no shortage of money

My worry would be that I would need help starting when kid is 20. That won’t work.
