If you are flexible and can look up the long range weather forecast, it might work. If you are saying that you must leave on Dec 28 or other specific date, that's risky.

Roads could be fine and they could be awful. I would have refundable hotels booked and a back up plan if weather starts to look bad. I also wouldn't take risks with driving. There is A LOT of area up there where there is nothing and can have spotty cell service. You don't want to be stuck. If you do go, make sure your car is stocked with emergency essentials. I live in New England and have to drive in bad weather because of my job and we plan trips up north knowing it's a 50/50 chance we will cancel. And we rarely go past the busier mountain areas in New Hampshire.

A friend from Toronto is flying to Toronto from DC over xmas break. They are dreading it due to the possible winter weather impact to travel. They said they never try to travel around this time if they can help it.

You should have snow tires on the car. I wouldn’t do the trip without them. Montreal residents are required to have them on by Dec.

It could be fine, it could be hazardous.

Are you actually asking if New England and eastern Canada will possibly have bad weather in late December?
