Op here. My question is driven by possible option of ed2 to Hopkins. Or maybe they just wait for rd georgetown decision? Kid prefers georgetown (but admittedly we know less about hopkins). I was pondering the potential benefit of hopkins ed2 acceptance rates and if I should encourage my kid to lean into that opportunity if program and community is strong.

SAIS is a very useful graduate program, but it's not a great education. Too many adjuncts. And while the combined BA/MA program sounds appealing, getting an MA without work experience isn't all that useful - much better to work for a few years and then use the MA to deepen knowledge/credentials around a specific area.

Adjuncts are a positive for an education that deals with the real world.

I was an IR major at Hopkins (BA only). The only adjuncts I had were high level government officials intheir native countries. They were excellent teachers who offered a unique perspective.

I second Georgetown for undergrad and SAIS JHU for grad. Great combination. Excellent list of policy-oriented scholars at both schools and tons of great practitioners.

If kid is interested in international studies (for undergrad), how would you compare Johns Hopkins vs Georgetown school of foreign service? In terms of the student experience, prestige, internship opportunities, social life, sense of community, etc? Would appreciate any feedback on these two programs/schools.
