I'm not sure what you're asking. I booked hotels directly where I could, including with Mimaru. I also used Booking.com during our trip. I found it to be a good search engine for Japanese hotels. I've read bad things about Booking.com, but didn't personally have any issues.Anonymous wrote:Thank you PPs!
We are looking at hotels on Hotels.com and these are priced per room. Am I missing something?
PP again. You're very welcome. And I'll note that the JapanTravel reddit is massively helpful. You could confidently plan your entire trip just using that as a resource. I read a ton of trip reports with kids.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Check the Mimaru chain. We stayed in one of their hotels in Kyoto earlier this year and the whole experience was splendid. Parents had a queen bed and the kids loved the bunk bed. A third child could've slept on one of the cushioned dining benches. It was a compact space, but it was spotless and great to have a small kitchen and spacious eating area. There was no place to unpack, which was the only downside. (We were there for five nights and lived out of our suitcases - I was glad I packed us in cheap packing cubes and we each had our own color.)
The staff spoke excellent English and was helpful. They didn't have a restaurant on-site, but did have an arrangement with a hotel around the corner for a discount on an extensive buffet breakfast (I think it cost under $50 for the four of us to eat).
Mimaru Kyoto during spring was only $200/night with tax. But we did book well in advance.
Also - Suggest looking for hotels under a ten-minute walk to a train station, but not the massive ones. Even if the massive ones have more lines, getting through them is an adventure in itself. Don't trust the Google walk times in train station. And Ubers/taxis may be far less expensive than you'd expect. Our youngest was 5, and we felt okay not using a car seat on short trips - he sat well in the back seat and with the traffic, we were always moving slowly. We never went on a highway.
One last thing: DON'T miss TeamLab Borderless. Try for a slot when they open. Don't do too much reading in advance so you're surprised. And know that it's in a high-end mall with tons of eating options. Including a GREAT bakery.
Did I mention we had a total blast in Japan?
Thank you, PP, for these great tips!
