I'm not sure what you're asking. I booked hotels directly where I could, including with Mimaru. I also used Booking.com during our trip. I found it to be a good search engine for Japanese hotels. I've read bad things about Booking.com, but didn't personally have any issues.

We stayed at Hotel Groove Shinjuku, and loved it. The view was amazing. If we hadn't stayed there with the kids, our second choice was a Mimaru hotel.

I found this website to be super helpful with all kinds of tips for traveling to Japan with kids.

Tokyo was amazing, and we all can't wait to go back.

Agree with the Mimaru suggestion. We enjoyed the Akasaka location but there are several options and they are well priced for the relatively spacious (by Tokyo standards) set up.

Do an Airbnb as those are priced per unit not per person. You can get a 2-room place with futons and tatami mats for all.

We have had good experiences with mimaru and the imperial hotel Tokyo.

We are going in the spring, but we found hotels with the following brands:
OMO5
Super Hotels —rooms had 2 person bed with one bunk bed above (3 people to a room) and adjoining rooms.
Karaksa—have adjoining rooms

And did a quick search on availability, and I hope you aren’t going this year!

A third child could've slept on one of the cushioned dining benches. It was a compact space, but it was spotless and great to have a small kitchen and spacious eating area. There was no place to unpack, which was the only downside. (We were there for five nights and lived out of our suitcases - I was glad I packed us in cheap packing cubes and we each had our own color.)

The staff spoke excellent English and was helpful. They didn't have a restaurant on-site, but did have an arrangement with a hotel around the corner for a discount on an extensive buffet breakfast (I think it cost under $50 for the four of us to eat).

Mimaru Kyoto during spring was only $200/night with tax. But we did book well in advance.

Also - Suggest looking for hotels under a ten-minute walk to a train station, but not the massive ones. Even if the massive ones have more lines, getting through them is an adventure in itself. Don't trust the Google walk times in train station. And Ubers/taxis may be far less expensive than you'd expect. Our youngest was 5, and we felt okay not using a car seat on short trips - he sat well in the back seat and with the traffic, we were always moving slowly. We never went on a highway.

One last thing: DON'T miss TeamLab Borderless. Try for a slot when they open. Don't do too much reading in advance so you're surprised. And know that it's in a high-end mall with tons of eating options. Including a GREAT bakery.

Did I mention we had a total blast in Japan?

Thank you, PP, for these great tips!
PP again. You're very welcome. And I'll note that the JapanTravel reddit is massively helpful. You could confidently plan your entire trip just using that as a resource. I read a ton of trip reports with kids.

Do a quick google for hotels for families. Many blog posts with suggestions.
Also figure out where you want to do most of your stuff, then pick a hotel in that area.

When we go, we stay around Shinjuku because the huge train station makes it easy to go most places.

Rooms in Japan are priced per person. So need to know how many people per room.

We have never been to Japan before and are taking the whole extended family over winter break.

Can anyone recommend a well located hotel that is ideally not over $400 a night for a room (and even better if it's $200)? Connecting rooms would be a plus.
