Samin Nosrat’s buttermilk brined turkey and Smitten Kitchen mushroom casserole were both hits

Contrary to our family history, I did not brine our turkey this year. I just did a butter massage and used the Washington Post dried herbs recipe, plus some garlic powder, right before throwing in the oven - I thought it was good and lots easier.

Made Smitten Kitchen baked sweet potatoes. 2 1/2 hours at 275 degrees then a few minutes under the broiler. First they were scrubbed, oiled and rolled in salt/pepper. They were a hit. No marshmallows nor pineapple in a sweet potato casserole which is what I grew up having.

Make ahead gravy from Hailee Cailano or something from Instagram. I used her Thanksgiving broth recipe (using turkey wings). It was so, so good.

Pasta bake was a huge hit but took 6 hours with made from scratch meat sauce.

Bourbon pecan pie. Big hit. The bourbon marries very well with the pecans and cuts the sweetness.

Uhhh what is that???
Please tell me it’s not like 7-Up salad

Have never heard of 7-up salad. I made this recipe for the pineapple casserole. I made it with kids in mind but the adults liked it too.

Made this instead of pecan pie, hit:

Otherwise we did everything the same as prior years, we pretty much have it dialed in to what our family likes.

New to me I made
Savory appetizer cheesecake. It was okay but I prefer my cheeseball and it’s a lot easier so I’m going back to that. People were taking slices of it to home when packing up and it got compliments.

Pineapple casserole. Hit. Would make again.

Challah stuffing by smitten kitchen. Hit. Would make again.

Cranberry salsa. I got the recipe from another poster on here. It was so good and definitely going on the repeat list.

Butterscotch pie. Did not have a small enough pan to caramelize the sugar so it didn’t have a very strong butterscotch flavor. Would not make again unless I get a smaller pot. Recipe called for a medium pot but it was too big.

What was this?

Do you have the recipe for this? Sounds interesting.

We made the Four-Pie Sheet Pan. It tasted pretty good and was a fun project.

There’s a video in this link, but I found the one on Instagram to be more helpful.
