Thats the new normal. Airline tickets are 3x since 2019 or 2021. I posted about this in some inflation thread. It’s ridiculous and airlines are making a huge profit.

Check flights out of Toronto.

We flew to London then direct to Santorini on another airline, about $1k.

And Emirates is even less.

Are you trying to go business? I see Turkish Air at the beginning of June from Dulles to Athens at 929$ a person for economy.

I second the Newark idea. We drove there to fly Emirates to Greece, and the flight was a good deal.

Look at flying out of Philadelphia or Newark. We are flying to Europe over Christmas break for $850 per person (instead of $2400) by flying out of Newark. Will drive up the morning of our flight and park (train is another option, but adds $$)

We went for spring break last year and did the mainland and an island. Turkish Airlines had a sale. So, I suggest April because it’s super hot in the summer anyhow.

Another option is fly to London or Paris or Frankfurt and grab a Ryan air or similar flight to Greece. I’ve done that before when going to Portugal and it’s fine.

Second checking google flights, i fly to Italy every summer with my family and really cut put flying costs after using google fight (see the graph function showing the cheapest days). I am frankly surprised that you can’t find anything for less then $2000 a person. I dont fly to Greece but Italy, which is also not cheap, especially in July and August) and never ever spent that much, normally it’s $800-$1200. I normay buy my tickets for the summer around March April.

Check google flight. Check Play. Check Condor airline. Check Turkish airline. Otherwise you can fy to London, Dublin, Manchester or similar places and then take Ryanair to greece. However, you will need at least a day stop over each way and a hotel room (ryan air and similar low costs airlines are ok but not if tou need to be somewhere to catch a flight to the US, they may be delayed and they may he canceled snd then you miss the flight back home. Also, the basic fare is cheap but adter you add suitcases often it us not worth the hassle ( it never made sense for me costwise, better getting a low cost all the way like Condor, at least you have a connection and if one flight is delayed they take care of you and rebook you). I am sure you can find something for way less than $2k a person

Have you checked google flights? I just looked from DCA to athens and there are flights for less than $700. April 22-may 8 was the one I looked at, and there are even cheaper ones earlier in April. June is definitely $$$, but there are still some cheaper ones in May too.

You can get there for $1,200 or less on Play via Reykjavik.

Yeah I doubt you will get lower than say $1500/person to Greece in the summer.

$1k per person is probably not going to happen.

It's nearly 2K a person to get to Greece in June (same as last summer). Checked prices from IAD, BOS, BWI. Prices appear to double starting on May 24. We could rejigger and go in April for spring break when it's more reasonable, but I was hoping to do some sights on the mainland and an island, which will require more time and thus why I was trying for early summer (hoping to beat the July-August high season). Possibly another way to go is to find a flight to another capital in Europe and then buy a cheaper internal flight to Athens. I'm hoping to keep this at 1K or so a person. Thanks for advice for anyone who has done this recently.
