Second is most keepers are practice keepers. In practice where they get 1000x more shots than in-game they fly around and know where the ball is coming from. In an actual game where they don't know the ball's direction, they kick save and fly awkwardly to the ball long after it's by them. Watch replays, they look ridiculous diving towards nothing. I watch the taller girls command the box easily. It's coming, taller women will break-out and coaches will start to understand it DOES matter in the women's game.

You definitely know less than you think you know.

No man is 6' lol... athletic or dating profile, if they say 6', automatic lie. Those 6' male keepers are 5'10, but about 5'11 with cleats on, so round up.

Mac Crone is 5'7". She played GK at Oklahoma and Alabama. She's on the Orlando Pride roster. She's their third GK but she's in the league.

Khiara Keating is 5'6". She plays for Manchester City Women's Football Club. Last year she was the starter for much of the season.

Most coaches will value height but an athletic GK that has an excellent sense of positioning can certainly be affective.

it’s kinda like outside hitters in volleyball - ton of kids have hops and more athletic at the position - but shorter than the avg. Coaches can explain away a mistake recruit with size, but can’t explain away a shorter kid who turns out to be a dud in college. Same thing in life when companies hire ivy degrees

Short keepers definitely have a disadvantage.

I have a son who is in the midst of the recruiting process. He is under 6 ft which he believes is a deal breaker for d1. He is a good keep though and hopefully someone will give him an opportunity. He has studied rosters and found some small D3 schools have shorter keepers.

There are a lot of very tall keepers on NVA clubs. The girl on NVA is 6'2 or 3" and going to Wake Forest and the girl on VDA is 6'4" or 5" and going to VT. I think a 2024 on RU was 6'2" and she's at Oklahoma St. All three are very good and recruited early. As a keeper dad, it matters not just "over 6ft = college", but when you eliminate corner in-balls and crosses, being a "big girl" matters. I think women's soccer will eventually come around and see the difference. Problem is for some keepers who are talented, the schools that make tournament every year used up scholarships on field players, rightly so. Keepers lose a little bit and the best go to smaller schools. Then you get small girls on good teams (see FSU disastrous keeping). If I told you speed matters to a winger, you'd nod. If I said being tall matters for a keeper, it's a freak out 'no no no, nuh unh..." Yes, it matters. Go see for yourself when a monster keeper is 2X the size of the striker. They're right in our area.

Requirement is a strong word, but all things being equal, yes it's preferred. Most positions have physical and athletic qualities coaches are looking for.

For some girl keepers I've seen shorter than about 5'6" or so, this seems to be thing from what I've seen locally. Great shorter keepers but the taller, less athletic ones get the scholarship.
