Wakefield boys 1v8 won state in 2022 for the first time in years (or ever?). But I think Wilson (DC) has done even better in recent years.

Langley’s only wins were in the 4th 8 boats. Which is the equivalent of having your freshman team win and claiming that you were state champs.

Are those Langley championships for the varsity 8 boats?

According to the Wakefield Crew Boosters website “Wakefield has built a legacy of success. In 2024, the girls first varsity 8 won the state championships for the 4th year in a row,”

I think the term “state champion” is being used if any boat (1V/2V/3V/novice, boys or girls) wins gold. I don’t know if they row 4s or singles. Langley has gotten a gold medal in at least one VASRA event every year since 2012, which is awesome. I’m not sure how many of those boats were varsity 8s.

The 2019 State Girls Champion Varsity 8 boat was from W-L HS.

So Langley was not the state varsity 8 winner from at least 2019 through 2024 on the girls side.

All these teams have anywhere between 100 to 150 members. I saw in the news that W-L left its home of almost 80 years in Georgetown since it outgrew the boathouse there.
