Are you serious? I'm a teacher and the only time I sit down is during lunch and sometimes planning. Go to a temp agency to find a desk job. A day of subbing is exhausting!

Maybe in a pep classroom. Usually the paras are well trained and will take over for circle time. They are used to doing diapers. You would be an extra set of hands. And I know the program would be very happy to have a good punctual sub. You would get lots of work (if you wanted).

The school environment is a difficult one. Expect the days to be hectic and expect your senses to be under attack all day.
But we are desperate for subs! If you can handle the somewhat uncontained energy of a school, please join us!

I think subbing is a great idea!
The secret is not the age group but in picking teachers who leave reasonable plans and have strong class routines in place.
You don't have to stand for hours in the upper classes, you are essentially a warm body administering worksheets in most cases.

I've observed my kid's first-grade class... I wouldn't call it a well-disciplined environment. That honestly looked like one of the most exhausting jobs I've ever seen-- and I've gone construction and farming jobs before.

I am trying to get back into a job after not working for more than a decade and a friend suggested being a sub. I have a degree in an unrelated field and I have forgotten everything I did before and I am over 50. Getting back into my old field is not possible now and I just need a job. I didn't know where to start and my friend said some of her other friends started out as subs when they had a long break as SAHMs.
The paraeducator jobs would probably be better if you can find a full-time one with benefits.

Have you looked at other options within MCPS? There are openings for other positions besides teaching. One of those might work for your experience.

A sub has to stand for hours, so not sure what you are picturing.

Yes, they accept people with no experience. "Easier" grades all depend upon what age students you feel most comfortable with. I could say 2nd grade but if you like older kids better, it won't matter.
