+1

I am one of the feds who will supposedly come “revitalize” DC. Except that my office is old, decrepit, and in a sketch area. There are a) no decent lunch places or coffee shops within walking distance (assuming any of us actually would decide to spend money there) and b) none of us feel very safe walking around the area.

Sorry, but fed employees aren’t going to fix the root issues.

If she really wanted Federal Workers to return to office, maybe thinking about how they might get to the office will help.
Rock Creek closing Beech Drive
CT Ave - it is bad enough that you no longer have the additional lane but adding in the restaurant taking over the lane
Losing lanes to bike lanes (some that are barely used) has lead to gridlock
Changing some streets to one way etc etc etc

Funny because I live in Arlington and my $$$ neighborhood is full of very successful private sector employees who WAH at least several days per week including my DH who hasn’t gone into an office (aside from occasional large conferences and events to mentor others) in over a decade. And he makes more than me (plus stock bonuses). Many of them work with colleagues and clients across the globe so they work odd hours at times (with busy and slower seasons) versus the 9-5 butt in seat in some office complex of the Boomer generation.

I will be sure to let them all know they aren’t “normal adults.” Also I’m willing to bet you are at least 45 if not older and have no idea how things work anymore.

Her big apple is getting control or the RFK site so she can offer up a new football stadium.

Many, sure, but most live in the suburbs.

Bowser is beyond stupid. Her focus on federal workers just feeds into DOGE's playbook. She's too dumb to realize that the plan is to: (1) fire most of those federal employees, and (2) move the remaining ones out of DC. So she'll get her RTO wish, but DC will be further in the toilet than ever before.

Yep. My unit switched to full-time telework with no problems in 2020 because we were already used to telework, we've actually been more productive with expanded telework than before because we don't have to take whole days off for appointments etc., we work with people all over the US so all of our meetings are on Teams anyway, it's a federally-owned building, and we all brought our lunches anyway. So what does Muriel Bowser think she's doing?

If I were Vivek and Elon, and the DC Mayor were recommending something, I'd immediately be skeptical of what she's recommending.

I’m all for ending remote work, but she is probably taking the wrong tack here if we are to put any stock in what Elon and Vivek are cooking up. If drastic cuts in the federal workforce are inevitable (as they seem to be), the better option would be to push Trump to dispose of the under-occupied federal buildings so that the city can start transitioning.

She might as well have kept her mouth shut. Remote work will probably be curtailed under Trump. Depending on their agencies, federal workers have greater worries than losing remote work, as big an adjustment as that may be.
