OP it might be fine but if some of your networking and interviewing will be virtual, consider how it looks on camera. Some bun type hairstyles can look severe (but some are fine depending on the style and face structure etc)

Impossible to tell because we’re all so different. I’d ask someone close to you if you can.

I have curly hair and also am in a bun the vast majority of the time. It feels more professional vs unpredictable curls/frizz. And I also worry a lot about what’s doing and tend to fiddle with it, which also feels unprofessional.

I let it dry first with a gel cast and then lightly break the cast and pull it back. Helps with bit of volume around my head so I don’t look bald and I’ve learned to pull it back loosely vs tight to my scalp — especially when online. On non wash days it looks softer but I need to use product to reshape the curls and tame the frizz before pulling it back. And when online I make sure I have earrings or a necklace or something to help me not look so bland. Also lipstick and mascara, because I’m very pale with light hair and otherwise just disappear on video.

Agreed, I don't. But what I do know is that there are people who have very curly hair like Andie MacDowell who look great.

I know people who look really good this way and others who don't pull it off as well. I'm in the second group but sometimes resort to this style because my curly hair is unpredictable. It looks okay from the front but my hairline doesn't look great from the side view. I'm not sure if something like side bangs works help me but I've been too chicken to try. My colleague looks great, though, in her high bun, no bangs. I think she has a smaller forehead.

Based on your description, you may need a different cut if you have curly hair at one length and can only do bun.

Hair texture is not a component of professionalism, BTW.

I love curly hair, so I'm all for leaving it down. If you like the professional look of it up, I say keep it! Maybe try out some new hair clips or bun styles. Do you do a french twist?

45 yo woman in a conservative office job. I have curly hair to my collarbone but if I put it up while wet, it makes a sleek updo (bun or twist). I think this is more attractive and professional than down and curly, but it's definitely plain - especially on camera.

I'm job hunting soon and wondering if I need to do something different. WWYD?
