Denver used to be great. The past ten years have been terrible. Too much growth. It’s lost its big small town feel.

I'd love to agree with you, but I'm actually into air quality and DCs is surprisingly pretty good. Apart from seasonal allergens . Denver has wildfires and bad traffic , though Id stick mostly to the township, not cross cross the city daily - OP

Not everyone has "family is family" family.
Security, total safety - does that exist? Is your family young, will they probably be around for a while to comfort you and are they able to comfort - don't expect sometimes family simply can not they are humans too. It is easy to start feeling like DC is fancier when you visit other places and who knows you may get bored of Denver quickly but if "comfort" is what you are looking for, try it. And as for DC being DC in future, no one knows what will come next. Go to tourist spots and beautiful LoC before you leave town or save those things for when you visit.

No, not young. Which is kind of why I want to glom onto them while I can. It's now or never for family time..
Re tourist spots, they exist in my head or in the movies. How often can one really traverse the mall? DC for me is an attitude, a smell, a sound, like any place. Not necessarily better, just, familiar.The DC that appeals to me is the exciting one in shows like 24 or Homeland, not my daily existence anyway

I think if I leave I'm not coming back tho. There's loss in that. I was born here. The title of the 90s movie 'Things to do in Denver When You're Dead" keeps running through my head On the other hand, Casa Bonita (great childhood memories) has been reconstituted by the South Park people. Yay!
I am from DC, but family in "the West", and have a love/hate relationship with my hometown DC.. basically, I love I when I leave and see the swooping shot of the Washington Monument in the movies haha. It's so beautiful! The green canopy! Monuments! Civic pride! But to live here... eh...daily reality is not that, right? Nice friends here tho, FWIW, none in Denver - just family. (Not "just", but just)
I have been through a lot of trauma in DC of late and putting in more of myself feels like, well, a grind , and Denver is a "fresh start" option. I keep telling myself aim going to "ski it out" (and I don't ski). I guess I'd have to learn , or some other outlet..when one door closes kind of thing??
One child, good school options in both places (private, nothing against public whatsoever, but child just happens to be on that track so would not likely switch over).
Appreciate thoughts.
