They should make the mind-numbing CS class an elective, so the academically advanced kids kids can take language and music classes, and do CS using one of the many free curricula at home.

The extra elective was part of the calculus when current families decided to attend. Plus, the ability to take a band/orchestra class during school is good for kids’ mental and emotional health.

Yes...itnis ridiculous / sneaky that they surveyed the students before asking the parents. Please join the zoom call today to provide feedback. My kid also does not want to give up an elective because of the change. Parents, please push back against this change.

So, one thing that I think was fairly sneaky was that the TPMS kids were surveyed <bold> before </bold> they checked in at home. So they might not have realized that they would need to give up an elective (technology vs. language vs. orchestra) before being pushed to complete the survey.

Yes eastern only allows one elective but they only offer band after school, not orchestra.
The beloved band teacher at TPMS will surely not go for that. Plus there are multiple band and orchestra classes.

Yes eastern only allows one elective but they only offer band after school, not orchestra.

If the pressure is coming from the teachers again AND is someone who is wiling to work with parents for the good of the kids, you MIGHT be able to counter the change if you get organized and move quickly.

My oldest was at TPMS when they tried to do it previously. At that time, the push for the change was coming
from some of the teachers.
The PTA opposed the change and coordinated with the principal at the time (Ms. Johnson) to survey the students. I think teachers and parents were probably surveyed as well, but I don’t really remember that part. After all the results were in, Ms. Johnson decided to keep the block schedule with the extra elective.

I heard that kids were told today that the bell schedule is changing and next year if you are in the magnet you only get one elective. Previously they’ve had two.

The ability to take both a foreign language and orchestra is important to many magnet families.
