You can do the math. There were at best 10 REA's accepted from socal for class of 2028.
Athletic recruits from southern California, class of 2028 (not all sports listed)
Water Polo (men's and women's): 7
Track/Cross Country: (men's and women's): 3
Swimming/Diving: (men's and women's):1
Basketball: (men's and women's):2
Rowing, light and heavy: (men's and women's): 2
Baseball/softball: 2
Football:2
Golf (men's and women's):2
Sailing:1
Fencing: 2
Volleyball (men's and women's):2
Harvard University received 7,921 applications to the Class of 2028 in the early round, accepting 692 for a rate of 9 percent. Where are you getting the 2,980 figure?

No special ECs, wow. Not something you hear often for that many Ivy acceptances.

Apparently there were only 130 Harvard students from southern California, of which something like 40 were athletes, most of whom had "commit to process"/REA applications. The rest were legacy/donors, from the immigrant community (Harvard loves DACA socal students).
There are something like 800 high schools in southern California. So a handful of unhooked Harvard students, probably fewer than 25. Keep in mind that just one city, Irvine, California, has over 130 National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists.
