Did you even look at the sample calendar? There’s still a summer break, it’s just 5-6 weeks instead of 8+.

Yes, but I much prefer a longer summer break that makes it easier to coordinate and travel with family in other districts.

The year round calendar had the majority of summer break in June with school restarting in mid July. Not ideal in any way.

It costs a lot of money to cool down huge buildings like schools. It would be more financially responsible to not have school during the hottest times of the year.

Costs money to heat them in the winter as well. In a year-round schedule kids would have multiple weeks off during the winter.

I’m completely against year round school and am hoping LCPS doesn’t head that direction. I love summer break.

Our youngest graduates LCPS in 2026, so I don't GAF. But I will say, year-round school deserves a look and if Loudoun wants to lead the way, go for it. A long summer off is a waste for these kids.

I was horrified by the 8/4 start date.

I also don't want year round school for personal reasons. Give me 4 more years, LCPS, and then have at it!

More consolidated days off vs these random one off holidays that create short choppy weeks and aren’t really usable for any kind of travel. Summer is increasingly too hot to be enjoyable so I like the idea of a 5-6 week summer break with more weeks off throughout the year when the weather is better and you could actually travel.

There’s a significant number of families in LCPS who take extended trips to their home countries in the fall-winter and the 2/3 week end of quarter intermission breaks would make that more feasible without missing 2-3 weeks of school. I really really like the idea.

The options for 26-27- meh. The one I truly hated was the one that had kids starting August 4 and teachers in July. The other options were satisfactory but that one was awful.

I'm not in LC, but it's bizarre to me that you think the school calendar should be based on accommodating families' travel plans. Are all LCPS air conditioned?

Yes, all smoke and mirrors. Decision have been already made. LCPS moving to year round schedule. Just need to loosen up those against it by lubing it between now and 26-27 SY. Prepare accordingly.

Quite a shift in start and end dates in the four calendar options available. Potential start/end dates are:
8/4 - 5/28
8/12-5/28
8/13-5/28
8/17-early June (I forget the exact date).

Odd that they would deviate from neighboring counties so much. Anyone have any insight into this?
