Oooh, yes to Betsy Tacy! However the last 4 are set when Betsy is in high school and may not appeal with the melodrama over which boy she prefers dominating the story line. But the first 4 plus Winona's Pony Cart and then she can finish up the last 4 closer to late elementary/middle when it makes more sense.

Another vote for Betsy Tacy! They’re so sweet. Also Dick King-Smith’s Sophie books. He wrote the book Babe was base one, but these are a series of short books about a little girl who wants to be a Farmer.

OP. I loved Little Princess, and she didn’t complain. The others I listed were more mutually enjoyable.

Second Where the Mountain Meets the Moon

Would add the entire Tuesdays at the Castle series. I read it alongside my oldest when she was in about 2nd grade (not aloud, but at the same time) and we loved it. Have since purchased the books and my younger kids also loved it.

Other newer books with a classic feel to consider:

- The Ryan Hart books (been compared to a modern Ramona)
- Vanderbeekers series

Was surprised at how funny one of my kids thought The Phantom Tollbooth was at that age when I was really reading it aloud to an older sibling.

Wild Robot series and recently we read this American Girl Mystery that was great and I'm going to get more of them. It was all about the suffrage movement but set up in this interesting mystery that kept us both interested.

Seeking recommendations for read-aloud books with my six-year-old. So far, we have both loved everything by Kate DiCamillo, several Roald Dahl books, and classics like "The Hundred Dresses" and "A Little Princess." I'm hoping for suggestions that would appeal to both a bright, highly sensitive 6-year-old and to me, her mom.
