Ask my parents what? What touristy things to do in London? You do realize that Britain is a large place right? My dad has been to London twice in his life.

Use Today Tix app for theatre. Also check out concerts at St Martin in the Fields or St Paul's. The Royal College of Music will have options as well.

There are a lot of options for niche interests: watching cycling practice at the Olympic Velodrome, Wimbledon tour, the Design Museum, day trips to Canterbury Cathedral. If you like stately homes, Apsley House and Kenwood House are right in London.

Nobody goes to London for the sunshine in January. There’s loads to do. I’d do a Jack the Ripper walking tour - surprisingly interesting and perfect atmosphere. Love the Wallace Collection.

Not that poster but its true. It's the longest, darkest month. Everyone is miserable after the Christmas holidays and on less pay (long month). Also people are either attempting dry January or failing it badly.

How do I know? I am from London and lived there a very long time.
Most of the places suggested by the poster with links will be freezing / closed in Jan. The Globe and the river - both too, too cold. Yuk.

Pretty dark sad place in January

British Museum, Tate Modern, National Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the National Portrait Gallery were our faves. I'd put the V&A toward the top of the list because there really isn't anything comparable in the States. Imagine very wealth people collecting a lot of cool stuff. If you can, take a trip to Hampton Court Palace, which is at the end of the commuter train line, about 30 minutes from Waterloo Station. It's massive and you'll learn a lot about the Tudors, beyond Henry VIII's wives. I'm not sure it's open during the winter, but I'd skip Windsor Palace. It was like a Disney World castle.

Theater, restaurants, museums, shopping, afternoon tea. Maybe a day trip of two. What do you like to do? London is a pretty well worn path travel wise - check various travel guides (not sure if NYT has done a 36 hours on London recently).

I haven't been to London in 20 years. What should we do? One week, no kids.
