Lots of towns and cities have parades around now to bring out the community and celebs to celebrate and build community. Think of it as one of the benefits we get from our local taxes. The annual Hollywood Christmas Parade (Los Angeles), Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (NYC), Chicago Thanksgiving Parade, The Mayor’s Annual Christmas Parade (Baltimore, Md.), etc.

Couldn’t go this year but we’ve always enjoyed it.
It’s a parade… not sure why it has to have a history?

Monty an inflatable penguin! Monty the Penguin is Silver Spring’s unofficial mascot and comes from the Sally Callmer Thompson mural, “Penguin Rush Hour” outside the Silver Spring Metro station.

Larger than life inflatable turkeys and penguins, glittering floats, marching bands, dancing groups, and Santa and his elves!

The Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade is the only Thanksgiving Parade in the metro DC area.

Held in downtown Silver Spring, the exciting parade traditionally heralds the start of the holiday season.
