My colleague's daughter went there and loved it. Made great friends, had a fun time.

We visited. It's a party school in the middle of a city. There is no central place for the students to hang out. Each block is surrounded by busy city streets. While there are some nice trees and old southern buildings, its very noisy and smells like exhaust everywhere. The buildings are constantly under construction because they are so dated. My kid decided against applying after the visit.

Look at U South Carolina for a better overall experience and still not far from Charleston for an occasional trip with friends.

+1
Huge gender imbalance for girls! If you want SC for DD, can you look at Clemson?

I never understood why because it seems like paradise to me but a lot of kids end up transferring out

It's public.

Also, I believe it is about 80% female which is very unbalanced. Just take that into consideration.

It's 60% female. But then there's the Citadel right nearby.

I’ve always thought of it as a party school for not terribly intellectual southern kids. Maybe that was the 90s.

Charleston is a great city with a lot of charm and I can definitely see the appeal of CoC. It is a fairly southern school in terms of vibe and culture so that’s just something to be aware of. A family member that attended didn’t end up finding it to be a good fit and transferred.

I have heard the off campus housing is through the roof.

My 2025 applied. OOS COA around $56k which appears to be on the higher end for a southern public school.

Don’t have a child there but we looked at it. Gender balance is really off and housing after freshman year is a challenge (extremely expensive) so you may want to look into those things if important to you.

Hi - DD is just now considering applying for the fall. Will visit if she gets in but wondering what the vibe is like. Anyone have a DC there?
